My Cognos Analytics experience may be segmented into 3 eras. As an intern, and then full-time Data Warehousing Analyst, for the Kerr-McGee Oil Company, I got a great introduction to IBM Cognos Analytics. Mentored by some of the best data analytics adminstrators and analysts, I learned concepts around multi-dimensional-cube driven analytics, report building, and data-visualizations. As a Cognos Administrator for Hoya Vision Care, I learned about requirements gathering and report creation. Later, as a technical sales rep and then Global Sales Channel manager, for BSP Software, a third-party software that interacted with IBM Cognos Analytics, I learned about software sales presentations and reseller management.

  • Gathered requirements for and implemented BI requests from several departments.
  • I became familiar with the business intelligence suite, Cognos Series 7 (Transformer, Upfront, PowerPlay Enterprise Server, PowerPlay Web, Impromptu Web Reports, NoticeCast, Cognos Web Services, Visualizer).
  • Using Cognos Visualizer, HTML, and ASP I created a custom dashboard for C-Level and department heads for their weekly KPI reviews.
  • Performed routine maintenance, administered security to the Cognos Upfront portal with Access Manager, and scheduled cube updates using PowerPlay Transformer.
  • Created internal websites for the Human Resources on-boarding, Executive Management, and Data Warehousing teams using Active Server Pages, Dreamweaver Ultradev, Macromedia Flash, Adobe Acrobat, and Adobe Photoshop

After my internship at Kerr-McGee, I was hired for a full-time position as a Data Warehousing Analyst I & II. During my time there I:

Developed a corporate training program for all Cognos Impromptu and PowerPlay users. This program included weekly workshops for Impromptu report writers, a technical training manual for PowerPlay users, corresponding .avi files of often used functions (using Camtasia software), and training classes in branch offices.


In the 2 years I was a Cognos (IBM Analytics) Administrator for Hoya Vision Care I did a major upgrade of Cognos software and created a series of sales and finance reports for the company.

To help with the adoption of these upgrades, I created a corporate training program for the sales team to utilize the newly upgraded Cognos system, creating a training and sales dashboard and corresponding set of videos, live training events, and manuals.


Full Stack Developer Coding Bootcamp at University of Arizona

During my tenure at BSP Software (now Techdata) as a Technical Sales Representative, I demonstrated the benefits and complexities of our company software (MetaManager) to potential clients, often C-level executives. These were live software demonstrations on our demo environment.

As the Global Channel Manager, I developed and maintained productive relationships at all levels of partner organizations, including executive leadership, sales, event marketing, and pre-sales engineering. I was also flown nationally and internationally to train our resellers on the software and sales presentation associated with it.
