Teaching, training, and instruction runs in my family. My grandmother had a PhD. in Adult Education, my mother had a Masters degree from the department of education at the University of Oklahoma, my father was an instructor for quality assurance in the military, my brother is an award winning cheerleading coach, and my sister is a college admissions counselor. Connecting with people to exchange ideas and tell stories has been a long tradition in my life. Below are a few examples of how this has played out in my career.

I wasn't sure what awaited me when I signed up to be a Peace Corps volunteer in 2004. What an adventure! Some of my students had never seen let alone touched a computer!

  • I was trained on how to create a lesson plan, reach learning objectives, create and follow a syllabus as well as teach with cultural differences and language barriers in mind.
  • I taught classes to young adults in the Microsoft Office Suite (Introduction and Advanced Word, Access, Excel).
  • I also taught classes in Desktop Publishing which emphasized layout and design concepts as well as using Adobe Photoshop 7.0 and Adobe PageMaker 7.0.

Details about my IBM Cognos experience can be found on its own page. However, this experience included the creation and implementation of a corporate training program for the sales team and included creating a training and sales dashboard and corresponding set of videos, live training events, and manuals.

While living in Buenos Aires, Argentina I worked as a technical recruiter for Olenick and Associates. I worked with Ernie Van Stedum to create a set of training videos for new recruiters (example). From Ernie - " Skye cranked out 30+ training videos in a relatively short period of time. We called these Jump-Start videos and the purpose was to provide high-impact training in 3-minute bitesize chunks."" You may see an example video below along with Ernie's review of my work.

During my tenure at BSP Software (now Techdata) as a Technical Sales Representative, I did live demonstrations of the benefits and complexities of our company software (MetaManager) to potential clients, often C-level executives.

As the Global Channel Manager, I developed and maintained productive relationships at all levels of partner organizations, including executive leadership, sales, event marketing, and pre-sales engineering. I was also flown nationally and internationally to train our resellers on the software and sales presentation associated with it.

"I had the pleasure of working with Skye Lucking by directing her efforts on an extremely important training initiative I imagined for my team of global recruiters. Being creative and bright, day after day, Skye cranked out 30+ training videos in a relatively short period of time. We called these Jump-Start videos and the purpose was to provide high-impact training in 3-minute bitesize chunks. Broad spectrum of topics ranged from how to submit a candidate to a given client to using Boolean logic on Dice to updating a candidate’s profile in MaxHire (applicant tracking system) based on our team’s norm. These Jump-Starts (end product) turned out wildly successful! At the time, it was a rather groundbreaking approach to training; all done well before YouTube’s proliferation of training segments.
